What the RC-45 line does
The RC-45 is a standard-speed 3D filament extrusion line designed for integrated 3D printing filament production. Its 45-type single-screw extruder melts plastic pellets, while gradient water baths cool and shape the filament. A dual-axis laser gauge measures filament diameter in line, followed by traction and automatic winding under a linked control system.
This filament extrusion equipment is configured for 1.75 mm filament with a specified diameter tolerance of ±0.03 mm and adjustable output of up to 25 kg/h. Buyers can select either a tape-fixing or threading-hole winding configuration according to their spool specifications and production requirements.
Complete line: threading-hole winder, storage rack, traction and diameter gauge, water-tank groups and the 45-type extruder.

Line layout
The layout drawing shows the RC-45 as a single straight run with an overall drawing dimension of 14,400 mm: the 45-type single-screw extruder at the feed end, followed by the hot-water and cold-water tank groups, traction with the in-line laser diameter gauge, and the threading-hole automatic winder with its spool storage rack at the winding end. The installed line occupies about 16.2 m including the online drying unit and the two 4 m tank sets, and the whole line runs under one linked control system from vacuum feeding to finished spool.

Extrusion system
The 45-type extruder melts and meters the material with a single screw of 30:1 length-to-diameter ratio and wear-resistant nitriding treatment; screw speed reaches 120 r/min through variable-frequency or servo adjustment. The barrel uses six independently controlled heating zones with PID control at ±3 °C, and the main drive is an 11 kW permanent-magnet synchronous motor. A hot-air dryer (40–100 °C adjustable) and material loader feed dry pellets to the hopper, whose optional 25 L or 50 L vessel heats by circulating air with bottom auxiliary heating at 40–120 °C, with dust filtration, over-temperature power-off and material-shortage alarm. The extruder unit measures 2,600 × 940 × 2,800 mm at roughly 690 kg.

Gradient cooling and shaping
Heating water tank group with automatic insulation and circulation.
Freshly extruded melt passes a heating water tank group (4 m, double-tank constant-temperature control) and a 4 m cooling water tank for gradient pre-cooling: the warm baths relieve internal stress before main cooling, helping avoid warping, cracking or an off-round core from quenching, and each bath can sit near the glass-transition range of the material being run. Hot-water temperature adjusts continuously from 30 to 90 °C at ±3 °C; each tank heats with three 2 kW stainless-steel elements and reaches its set point in about 15 minutes. A built-in circulation pump (0.5–2 m³/h) with filtration keeps the bath even and protects the filament surface, while water make-up, level control and bottom drainage are automatic, with water-shortage, over-temperature and leakage protection. The cooling water tank cools through an external chilled-water connection.
In-line diameter control and traction
Filament diameter is checked in line by a dual-axis laser gauge measuring the X and Y axes simultaneously at ±0.001 mm, monitoring roundness and ellipticity in real time; out-of-tolerance filament triggers an alarm and automatic feedback to line speed. Traction uses servo-driven double- or triple-roll clamping synchronized with winding at up to 120 m/min with ±0.1% speed accuracy. Between extruder and winder, a floor-standing storage rack (11,100 × 950 × 2,060 mm, 850 kg) buffers up to 330 m of filament to absorb speed differences between sections; its stainless guide wheels are dynamically balanced and fitted with adjustable silicone sleeves to protect the surface. Rack drives are Inovance servos — 1 kW storage adjustment, 750 W traction and 400 W metering — with photoelectric length detection linked to the winder for fixed-length winding and automatic roll change.

Threading Hole TypeTape Fixing Type
Automatic threading-hole winding
This line uses the front-and-rear threading-hole winder: at the start of each wind the filament end is threaded into positioning holes at the front of the spool and locked, keeping the first layers in order; when the set length is reached the tail is threaded into the rear hole to finish — no manual taping or binding anywhere in the cycle. The winder takes up filament at up to 120 m/min (±0.1%) onto spools with a 53–58 mm core and up to 200 mm outside diameter, about 1 kg each, with servo screw or cam traverse for a flat roll face. Fourteen Inovance servo axes (about 6.55 kW) drive roll change; Omron proximity switches and Leuze photoelectric sensors stop the machine on filament break or full spool, and a laser sensor threads the holes precisely. AIRTAC pneumatic cylinders operate at 1 MPa, and the machine handles automatic roll change, fixed length, output statistics and remote monitoring for uninterrupted production. The unit measures 2,400 × 1,200 × 2,400 mm at 1,050 kg.

Spool requirements
The threading-hole winder works with spools whose core inner diameter is 53–58 mm and whose threading holes are at least 5 mm wide with a hole spacing of 35 mm or more. Spools outside these dimensions are not suitable for this winder.
Spool requirement diagram: core ID 53–58 mm, hole width ≥ 5 mm, hole spacing ≥ 35 mm.
Automatic tape-fixing winding
The winder takes the filament up at up to 200 m/min onto spools with a 52–56 mm core and up to 200 mm outside diameter, about 1 kg of filament per spool. At the start of each wind, an automatic glue station feeds, cuts and applies tape in one motion, fixing the filament end to the spool at an adjustable length and position so the first layers wind in order. A 1.5 kW vacuum pump holds the joint flat, and tape tension adapts to the filament so the surface is not damaged. Traverse runs on a servo screw or cam for a flat, even roll face. Seventeen Inovance servo axes (about 7.75 kW in total) drive roll change, and the machine stops itself on filament break detected by photoelectric and proximity sensors; a laser sensor handles precise hole threading. Fixed-length winding, output statistics and remote monitoring run continuously, so the line winds without an operator standing at the spool.

Control and electrical safety
An Inovance 10-inch touch screen with an independent extruder PLC operates the line; the HMI stores temperature curves, manages recipes, runs fault diagnosis and logs output statistics, and the extruder, traction, diameter gauge and winder run in one closed loop. Communication uses RS485 and Ethernet with Modbus TCP/RTU, so the line can be integrated into an MES. Schneider breakers and contactors provide overload and short-circuit protection, and Taisong current-detection sensors monitor the temperature-control circuits in real time. The line runs on a three-phase 380 V / 50 Hz TN-S supply with a total installed power of 69 kW, including both hot-tank heating groups, rack traction and the hopper.
